Prof. Dr. Siva K. Balasundram is a Professor of Precision Agriculture and currently serves as the Head of the Department of Agriculture Technology at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He is also the Asia-Oceania Regional Representative on the Board of Directors of the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA), where he contributes thought leadership and strategic direction to the global precision agriculture community.
With more than two decades of experience, Prof. Siva’s research portfolio is anchored in modeling spatio-temporal variability in agricultural systems through the synergistic application of geospatial statistics, remote sensing technologies, and artificial intelligence. His work directly supports the transformation of conventional agriculture into precision-, smart-, and digitally enabled farming ecosystems, aligning productivity goals with sustainability imperatives.
He has successfully secured approximately RM1.7 million in competitive research funding and has an extensive scholarly output comprising 85 peer-reviewed journal articles. His innovation footprint includes two registered copyrights and one patented invention, reflecting strong translational impact from research to application.
Beyond research, Prof. Siva is a highly committed educator, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in agriculture technology and precision agriculture. He is also a sought-after international speaker, having delivered more than 50 invited talks worldwide on Precision, Smart, and Digital Agriculture. Through his academic leadership, research excellence, and global engagement, Prof. Siva continues to play a pivotal role in shaping sustainable, resilient, and data-driven agricultural futures.
